& Stitches:
Stationery Kit
Bitches & Stitches is a stationery line who focuses on creating kits which are geared towards various archetypes. This line, which includes a notebook and a variety pack of various pens and pencils, focuses on different archetypes within a friend group and the dynamics they contribute to the group through their unique personalities.
The challenge with this group was finding a way to display the unique voices of each character, not through illustration or photography, but with fabric patterns and textures. You can understand a lot about a person by what they choose to wear, so through this series it feels as though you are almost snooping through each of the character’s closets and finding the patterns, colors and textures that align perfectly with they’re personalities.
One of the main components of this project is the use of second-hand fabric scraps to make these quilting patterns. When looking at these projects up close, you can see the woven textures of the fabrics, which adds to the visual texture which almost blends into a tactile texture.
The structure has multiple uses, which is more than just a package for pens. This can be used as a pencil case or a display within an office space. To open the container, you pull out the drawer component and can be used as an organizer within a desk. Or if you would prefer to hold your pens at a more ergonomic angle, the top of the wrap around can be used as a stand to prop up the pens at a 45 degree angle. My goal for this project was to create something that was not only beautiful, but functional.
For the main structure, I wanted to create a structure that is not only eye-catching, but able to be used to display the pens on a desk or at a work area. The box opens and flips back to create a kick stand to be used as storage and display.
For the full package, a craft paper sleeve holds the notebook and pen package together. For a final premium touch, the notebook is wrapped in brown paper packaging and finished off with twine, adding more tactile components to the project without overwhelming the piece with additional color and busy patterns.
