Women in Power:
Washington Post Cover Series
There is something that is so inspiring about seeing other inspiring women create their space and unapologetically have their voices heard. Women who have fought for their space in the world by showing their worth and what they can bring to the world deserve to be known as the inspirations that they are.
This is a student magazine cover series focusing on the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Malala Yousafzai and Michelle Obama. Each of these women, though with a different background, have made an impact on the world in ways that shook the world they grew up in to create the world we know today.
For Malala Yousfzai, I wanted the focus to be her words, since her voice is what brought her story to light. Keeping in theme with RBG’s, the photo is in black and white, but casually posed. I wanted to showcase her strength, as she highlights the power of your voice and the impact you make.
For Ruth Bader Ginsburg (RBG), since this is a dedicated tribute, there is a lack of color to allow for her words to have the strongest impact. The chosen photo shows RBG at a moment of stillness. The photo is not posed and it is her in the moment. The quote chosen talks about her relentless power and strength, since she was the first woman to sit on the Supreme Court.
And finally, for Michelle Obama, I wanted to show her class and elegance through a photo that feels candid but also feels posed due to the lighting around her.
